The first half consisted of one goal and some great defense from both teams. With 8:31 to go before halftime, Erskine's Martin Maschio, Jr. (Palm Coast, FL, Flagler Palm Coast High School) scored the lone goal of the first half. Maschio, a sophomore, received a long pass from teammate Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) and shot the ball into the upper left corner of the goal that slipped past Lander's keeper Barrett Nielsen's hands. The goal was Maschio's first goal of the season. The Fleet controlled the first half with ten shots compared to Lander's five shots.

The second half was full of excitement for both teams.  Lander tied the game up at the 62:20 mark on a free kick. Lander's Steven Gonzales headed home the kick from teammate Luis Zuluaga to knot the game at 1 to 1.

Just a few minutes later, the Flying Fleet came charging back to retake the lead.  A long pass by Stian Tsesmetsis (Oslo, Norway, Norges Toppidrettsgymnas) to Alex Waldthausen (Greenville, SC, J.L. Mann High School) gave the Fleet a one goal advantage with nearly 20 minutes left in the game. The goal was Waldthausen's second goal of the season.

With time ticking down, Lander was able to tie the game at 2 to 2 off a corner kick that Stephen Bray headed into the goal.

In overtime Lander made a quick goal in the first minute of play. Ali Mohamed scored the game-winning goal from an assist on a cross by Robert Seaton. The goal sent a shock to the Erskine fans in attendance.
