Box Score Due West S.C. - The Erskine Flying Fleet (2-1) handed Brevard Tornados (2-1) their first loss on the season, defeating the Tornados 2 to 1 in a non-conference men's soccer match up at Huggins Field.
Â
In the middle of the first period, Erskine's
Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) broke a scoreless tie to give the Flying Fleet a 1 to 0. Settlemire, anticipating a pass back to the goalkeeper, sprinted in from the back side to steal the ball and flip it into the open net.
Â
The Flying Fleet tacked on another score early in the second half. Junior Ross Henderson's header attempt was deflected by the Brevard goalkeeper. Sophomore
Silvio Braun (Munich, Germany, Adolf Weber Gymnasium) corralled the loose ball and slipped the ball into the goal. The Flying Fleet's insurance goal proved to be the game-winner moments later.
Â
Brevard's Jesse Omezi made a terrific pass to the sprinting Sergi Monso who tagged the ball into the left corner beyond the reach of the diving Erskine goalkeeper Fiore Costa to cut the Fleet lead to 2 to 1.
Â
Erskine's defense held the remainder of the game, giving the Flying Fleet the 2 to 1 victory and the Tornados their first loss of the season.
