Box Score Wilson, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet lost to #21 Barton College tonight 4 to 2 in the quarterfinal round of the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament at the Barton Soccer Field.
Despite falling behind 3 to 0, the Flying Fleet played valiantly on the road, tallying two goals within two minutes to draw within a goal at 3 to 2. Erskine's
Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) scored both goals. On his first goal, teammate
Josh Heafield (Barnstaple, England, PETROC College) served a free kick to Settlemire on the right side. Two minutes later teammate
Luke Boyce (Bungay, Suffolk, Bungay High) lofted a long pass to Settlemire again on the right side.
The Fleet continued to press forward to create opportunities for the game-tying goal but despite firing several shots could not find the back of the net.
In the 77
th minute, Barton tacked on their fourth goal of the night to seal the victory. Eric Pajunk passed the ball that split the Erskine back row to teammate Kevin Strassburger. Strassburger finished for his fourth goal of the season.
Erskine ends their season at 8-8-2 while Barton climbs to 13-5 and advances to the semi-final round of the tournament to face second seed Pfeiffer.
