Tsesmetsis's first collegiate goal is a game-winner

Box Score Central, S.C. – Just 46 seconds into the overtime period, freshman Stian Tsesmetsis (Oslo, Norway, Norges Toppidrettsgymnas) tallied his first collegiate goal to give the Erskine Flying Fleet (6-4-2, 3-1-2) a 3 to 2 victory over the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University (8-5, 2-4) tonight in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action at Childs Field.

Tsesmetsis played a cross from teammate Luke Boyce (Bungay, Suffolk, Bungay High) past the SWU goalkeeper Ruben Rodriquez for the game's "golden goal."  It was Boyce's third assist of the season.

The game's other four goals all came in the first half.  SWU's Joao Oliveira opened the first half scoring spree in the 8th minute with his first of two goals.  Teammate Ivan Malagon played a ball to Oliveira in the box.  Oliveira settled the ball and shot it into the lower right corner.   Oliveira would tie the game at 2 to 2 in the 33rd minute off a pass from teammate Christian Taylor.

For the Flying Fleet, senior Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) scored the Fleet's first goal to tie the game in the 26th minute.  Settlemire received the ball and beat his defender to rocket a shot into the lower left corner for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.  A minute later sophomore Jack Power (Southend-On-Sea, United Kingdom, The King John High School) gave the Fleet a 2 to 1 lead with his first goal of the season.  Tsesmetsis found Martin Maschio, Jr. (Palm Coast, FL, Flagler Palm Coast High School) who immediately fed the ball back to the middle for Power to finish.

Neither team could produce a goal in the second half despite several opportunities.  SWU took ten shots in the half but failed to put their shots on goal, requiring Erskine goalkeeper Fiore Costa (Niagara Falls, Ontario, St. Paul Catholic Secondary School) to make one save.  For the Flying Fleet, Erskine fired off seven shots, four on goal that Rodriquez stopped with some nice goalkeeping.  Rodriquez finished the game with six saves.

Overall SWU outshot Erskine on the night 24 to 16.

Erskine hosts Barton this Saturday for Homecoming.  Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
