Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine (3-4-1) lost in overtime 3-2 to Palm Beach Atlantic University (2-1-1) late this afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Huggins Field.
After being spotted a goal early in the game, Erskine's
Jonathan Rutter (Birmingham, England, Fairfax) hit a splendid shot from the baseline that entered just inside the far corner of the goal to tie the game at 2-2.
Earlier, in the 7
th minute of play, PBA goalkeeper Steven Bush made an errant pass that
Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) intercepted and pushed right back passed Bush to put the Fleet up 1-0.
Shortly thereafter the Sailfish tied the game on a penalty kick by Kenny Hogg. It was his first of three goals on the day.
The goal ended Erskine goalkeeper Roberto De La Vina's scoreless streak at 381 minutes.
The two teams entered intermission tied at 1-1.
In the second period, Hogg added his second goal when he redirected a cross by teammate Lucas Coutinho from in front of the goal.
In the last minute, Rutter dribbled down the right side of the penalty box and at the baseline, created space and flipped the ball into the far upper corner of the goal to tie the game.
Unfortunately Hogg completed the hat trick redirecting another cross, this time from teammate Evan Singular.
Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, San Ignacio) had a busy day between the posts as Palm Beach Atlantic fired 26 shots his way. De La Vina recorded 11 saves while allowing the 3 goals.
Erskine hosts local rival Newberry College next Wednesday. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
