Erskine wins 1-0 over Barton

Box Score Wilson, N.C. – Sophomore Peter Savarese (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) came off the bench to score the game-winning goal while senior goalkeeper Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, San Ignacio) recorded his second consecutive shutout as the Erskine Flying Fleet (2-3-1, 1-0) nipped the Bulldogs of Barton College (0-4-1, 0-1) 1 to 0 in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action at the Barton Soccer Field.

In the 40th minute, Savarese headed a throw in from teammate Ross Henderson into the near post to tally the game's only goal.  It was Savarese's first goal of the season.

In goal, De La Vina faced 14 shots and earned 6 saves in logging his second shutout of the year.  In his last game, De La Vina held the nation's leading scoring team, Lander University, scoreless through regulation and two double overtime periods.  De La Vina has now gone 270 minutes without surrendering a goal.

Erskine travels to Belmont, North Carolina, on Wednesday to face the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
