Erskine downs UNG 3-1

Box Score Morrow, GA. - Playing their first of two games in two days, the Erskine Flying Fleet picked up their first win of the season downing the Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia 3-1 in non-conference men's soccer action at Lake Field.

The Fleet caught the Nighthawks napping as goalkeeper Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, San Ignacio) sent a punt over the defense that junior striker Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) corralled to chip over the UNG goalkeeper Diego Castillas.  For Settlemire, it was his second goal this season while for De La Vina, it was his fourth career assist.

The Fleet added another goal in the 25th minute.  Junior Victor Nirennold (Rennes, France, Lycee Emile Zola) found Tobias Betz (Schongeising, Germany, Viscardi Gymnasium Fürstenfeldbruck) in front of the goal who flicked the ball over the goalkeeper for his first collegiate goal.

The Fleet put the game away with their third goal in the 60th minute.  Junior Jonathan Rutter (Birmingham, England, Fairfax) sent a long cross that sophomore Ross Henderson (Lincoln, England, William Farr C of E) redirected into the lower left corner, just past the diving goalkeeper.

The Nighthawks scored their lone goal late in the game to make the final score 3-1.

Erskine will play Clayton State University tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.
