Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Men’s Soccer Coach Warren Turner and Women’s Soccer Gary Winchester both released their 2013 schedules today.
The Erskine men’s team (8-6-4, 7-2-1) will play a 17 game schedule, including 8 home games. The Flying Fleet open their 2013 campaign at home against archrival Anderson University on Thursday, September 5
th. The Trojans (6-10-1, 4-4-1) concluded an otherwise disappointing season last year by winning the South Atlantic Tournament Championship. In last season’s matchup the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie. Erskine won the previous meeting 2-0 in 2010.
Besides Anderson, the Fleet will play seven other non-conference opponents, including #18 nationally ranked and local foe Lander University and #4 regionally ranked UNC-Pembroke.
On the conference side, Erskine will no longer face two-time regular season champion Coker College as the Cobras move to the South Atlantic Conference. Limestone and Barton both figure to be tough challenges this season. Limestone finished second last year in the conference standings and won the tournament while Barton finished fourth, just behind the Fleet.
The ladies currently have 16 games on the slate for this season and will open on the road against future conference member Southern Wesleyan University on Thursday, September 5
th.
Erskine (3-12-1, 3-8) will play eight of their first nine games on the road but will end their season playing five of their last seven games at home.
The Fleet’s home opener will not be until September 16
th and will be against archrival Anderson University. Last year the Trojans topped the Fleet 4-0 and have won the last three meetings between the two teams.
In addition to Anderson, Erskine will also play Brevard and Mars Hill out of the South Atlantic Conference and USC-Beaufort and Southern Wesleyan from the ranks of the NAIA.
The women’s team toughest non-conference foe will be local rival Lander University. Last year the Bearcats finished sixth in the Southeast region.
Within Conference Carolinas, the Flying Fleet will face two of their three biggest challenges, the defending champions Lees-McRae College and second place finisher Belmont Abbey College, on the road.
