Due West, S.C. – The Erskine men's soccer team will host the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament Game tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. It is the first-time for the Flying Fleet to host a men's soccer championship game since joining the NCAA Division II ranks back in 1995.
#1 Erskine hosts #2 Limestone College in a rematch of last Saturday's game. Erskine defeated Limestone 2 to 1 in overtime to earn a share of the conference regular season title with Limestone and the #1 seed in tournament.
Erskine has faced plenty of adversity in getting to the championship game. In the Fleet's 2-1 victory over #8 Mt. Olive, the Fleet were forced to play a man down after having a player receive a red card. And just last night, Erskine prevailed 5-4 in a shootout over #5 Pfeiffer University after playing to a 1-1 tie through regulation and two overtime periods.
Limestone, on the other hand, has won both their tournament games since losing to the Fleet. Limestone defeated #7 King University 1-0 in the quarterfinal round then topped #3 Barton 2-1 in the semi-final round. Limestone's Jack Bailey tallied the game-winning goals in both games while teammate Sam Orritt assisted on one and scored the other goal.
Erskine and Limestone will kick-off at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Huggins Field. Admission is free to the event.
