Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine's
Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) scored two goals while Erskine goalkeeper
Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, San Ignacio) had 7 saves in earning his third consecutive conference shutout as Erskine blanked King University 3-0 tonight at Huggins Field.
Settlemire's first goal caught both King University and the crowd by surprise. After accepting a pass from teammate
Luke Boyce (Lincoln, England, Bungay High) on the baseline just ahead of King goalkeeper Kari Sveinsson, Settlemire flipped the ball over Sveinsson's head that landed just in front of the goal and spun backwards into the goal that the line judge ruled crossed the line before the King defender could clear it.
Following a goal by teammate
Ross Henderson (Lincoln, England, William Farr C of E) on a free kick, Settlemire tallied his second goal, heading the ball off a pass from junior Victor Nirennold into essentially an open goal. Sveinsson had committed to stopping Nirennold coming from the right side. It is the second straight two goal game for Settlemire.
Meanwhile in goal, De La Vina recorded his third conference shutout, his fourth overall. De La Vina has yet to yield a goal in conference play this season.
Erskine will step out of conference this Saturday to host USC-Aiken. Kick-off is set for 4:30 p.m.
