Martin Maschio, Jr. (Palm Coast, FL, Flagler Palm Coast High School) scored his collegiate goal to give the Flying Fleet a 2-1 victory over in-state conference foe North Greenville University tonight at the Pepsi Center. The win also secured the Fleet's third ten-win season in four years.
After a scoreless first half, Erskine's
Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) scored his conference-leading 12
th goal of the year off a pass from teammate
Jonathan Rutter (Birmingham, England, Fairfax) to put the Fleet up 1-0.
The Fleet lead was short lived as the Crusaders tied the game on Alex Redding's first goal of the season just four minutes later.
With time clicking away, Maschio split the Crusader defense to blast a shot past the Crusader goalkeeper.
The win also assures that the Flying Fleet will be no worse than the #2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament to start next week.
The Fleet will host conference-leading Limestone College this Saturday. The winner of Saturday's game will not only be declared the conference regular season champion but will also be the #1 seed for the conference tournament.
