Pfeiffer spoils Homecoming topping Erskine 2-1

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Playing before a large Homecoming crowd, the Erskine Flying Fleet (9-5-1, 5-1) fell to the Falcons of Pfeiffer University 2-1 this afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action at Huggins Field.

All three goals came in the first half. Erskine notched the game's first goal in the 15th minute. Junior Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) got a shot off from the eight that deflected off the Pfeiffer keeper, Nicolas Dulac. Sophomore Daniel Beaty (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School) charged in from the opposite side to deposit the loose ball into the back of the net. It was Beaty's second goal of the year.

Pfeiffer's Nathan Regis scored the next two goals to give the Falcons the victory. For his first goal, Regis received a pass on the eight and made a terrific move to shake his defender. His shot passed across the front of the goal and entered just inside the far post.

Regis added his second score just six minutes later (39th minute). Teammate Simon Leslie drove to the baseline and passed the ball back to an open Regis at the top of the box. Regis blasted the shot into the left corner for the game-winning goal.

In the second half, both teams got goal-saving performances from their backs. Twice Erskine had shots that were cleared off the goal line by a Pfeiffer defender. Beaty had a shot cleared in the 65th minute after being deflected by the keeper while teammate Luke Boyce got a shot off from the eight that got past the diving Pfeiffer keeper but a defender cleared at the last moment.

Pfeiffer also had a header cleared away by an Erskine defender.

Erskine travels to North Greenville this Wednesday. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
