Erskine explodes for 3 second half goals to beat USC-Aiken

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine exploded for three second half goals to beat the Pacers of USC-Aiken 4-1 in non-conference men's soccer action at Huggins Field.  With the win, Erskine (6-4-1) extended their win streak to three games and have now won five of their last six games.

Despite being outshot in the first half 6 to 3, Erskine held a 1-0 lead at intermission.  In the 22nd minute, Erskine's Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) beat his defender and placed the ball perfectly in the far lower corner to give the Fleet the early lead.  Settlemire now has nine goals on the year to lead the Flying Fleet

Shortly into the second period, Erskine's Jonathan Rutter (Birmingham, England, Fairfax) started the Fleet's offense explosion.  Rutter nailed a free kick just outside the box perfectly into the right upper corner.

After USC-Aiken added their only goal, Erskine added two more goals to put the game out of reach.  Ross Henderson (Lincoln, England, William Farr C of E) one-timed a throw-in from Daniel Beaty (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School) into the lower left corner for his fifth goal of the season.   Beaty followed just seven minutes later with his own goal off a pass from Luke Boyce (Lincoln, England, Bungay High).

Defensively, Erskine goalkeeper Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, San Ignacio) made a couple of exceptional saves to preserve the Fleet lead.  De La Vina finished with 8 saves on 14 shots.

Erskine travels to Lees-McRae on Wednesday.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
