Box Score Mount Olive, NC – Erskine College and Mount Olive College played through 110 minutes of soccer that included two overtime periods to end in a 0-0 tie in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer action at Amon Field.
The two teams combined for 40 shots but could not find the back of the net, missing off target when the opportunities presented themselves as well as both goalkeepers making some spectacular saves to preserve the scoreless tie.
In the first half, Erskine's
Ross Henderson (Lincoln, England) launched a beautiful strike that Mt. Olive goalkeeper Nick Bernsdorf fended off.
Erskine had another missed opportunity in late second half when Andrew Settlemire’s shot sailed wide of the goal. Erskine’s goalkeeper
Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, San Ignacio)made a fanatistic save in the 55
th minute tipping Mount Olive’s Alex Bosch’s shot over the top of the goal.
De La Vina earned 10 saves on 24 shots while Bernsdorf recorded 6 saves off 16 shots by the Fleet.
This week Erskine (3-3-2, 2-0-1) faces another tough conference opponent in Limestone College, the #2 pick in the conference preseason coaches’ poll. The Fleet travel to Gaffney, South Carolina, to play the Saints on Wednesday. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
