Erskine Men's Soccer fights to a draw against Lander

Greenwood, SC – Erskine’s Jack Kimber (Manchester, England, Priestnall High School) scored a goal in the 86th minute to tie local rival Lander University 2-2 in men’s soccer non-conference action at the opening game of the Jeff May Complex.

In a very physical game, Erskine got on the board first when Cade Weatherly (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School) crossed the ball to Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) on the left side to put the Fleet up 1-0.  It was Settlemire's first collegiate goal.  Lander tied the game just before the half on a corner kick.

Lander took the lead fifteen minutes into the second half on a goal by Chris Hobbs.  Erskine tied the game late on a beautiful shot by Kimber to tie the game 2-2.

The teams slugged through two double overtime periods but neither team could find the back of the net.

Lander outshot the Fleet 15-14 while Erskine held a slight advantage in corner kicks at 11-9.

Erskine goalkeeper Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, San Ignacio)finished with 5 saves while Lander keeper Matthew Atkinson had 3 saves.
