Laurinburg, SC – Freshman goalkeeper Katie Lyle (Duluth, GA, Peachtree Ridge High School) recorded her first collegiate shutout as the Erskine Flying Fleet defeated the Knights of Saint Andrews University 2-0 in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action at Knights Field. Erskine evens their record at 3-3 overall while improving their conference record to 2-1. Meanwhile the Knights fall to 1-6 overall and remain winless in conference at 0-5.
Sophomore Victoria Bruce (Gladehill, VA, Franklin County High School) scored the Fleet’s first goal in the 36th minute. It was her second goal of the season. Senior Talisa Vire (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Providence Girls School) added an insurance goal for the Fleet midway through the second half on a pass from teammate Kimrey Angotti-Smith (Goose Creek, SC, Pinewood Prep School). For Vire, it was her first goal of the season.
Erskine dominated the game, outshooting St. Andrews 29-9. Erskine also held a significant advantage on corner kicks as well at 7-1.
Lyle recorded 5 saves on the Knight’s 9 shots.
Erskine travels to Tigerville, South Carolina, on Wednesday to play North Greenville University. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
