Erskine got on the board first in the twenty-fifth minute when freshman Dylan Goodale (Vienna, VA, George C. Marshall High School) took a deflection on the right side of the box on teammate Luke Boyce’s miss to slip the ball past the Brevard goalkeeper Jack Shaw. It was Goodale’s first collegiate goal. The Fleet had several more scoring opportunities but could not find the back of the net. The Fleet led 1-0 at halftime.
Erskine’s Luke Boyce (Lincoln, England) scored his first collegiate goal just minutes into the second half when he put back a rebound off the goalkeeper to put the Fleet up 2-0. Ten minutes later Brevard caught Erskine off guard defensively as Jami Uuttu sent a long pass to Tommi Rasinmaki, who drilled the ball past the Erskine goalkeeper Jake Schumacher (Sumter, SC, Thomas Sumter Academy). Both teams had several scoring opportunities but could not convert as the Fleet won 2-1. For Erskine, it was Schumaker’s first collegiate victory in goal.
