Belmont, NC – Erskine lost their last regular season game 3-0 to Belmont-Abbey in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action at Alumni Field. Erskine drops to 6-10 overall and 5-7 in conference while Belmont-Abbey climbs to 11-7 overall and 10-2 in conference.
The Crusaders exploded to score all three goals in the first twenty-five minutes of the game. The first goal came in the 5
th minute when Rebecca Mateo placed a high-arcing shot from the left side into the upper corner over the Erskine goalkeeper. The Abbey followed up with their second goal just two minutes later on a goal by Nicole Voets. Teammate Alana Rycek crossed the ball and Voets sealed off her defender and redirected the ball into the goal. In the 24
th minute, Rycek earned her second assist of the game on a pass to Brandi Clark who shot the ball upper corner of the goal.
Despite the loss, the Fleet earned the 8
th seed into the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament. The Fleet will travel to play #1 seed Lees-McRae College on Monday. Game time has not yet been announced by the host institution.
