Belmont, NC – Erskine failed to score for just the second time this season, losing to Belmont-Abbey College 1-0 in their final regular season game at Alumni Field in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer action.
The loss drops Erskine to 9-7-1 overall and 6-5 in conference. More importantly, the loss drops Erskine to the #6 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Erskine will travel to #3 seed Barton College on Tuesday. Belmont-Abbey ends their season at 6-11-1 and 4-7 in conference.
After a scoreless first half, the Crusaders tallied the game’s lone score in the 65
th minute. The Abbey’s Tom Wigley made a quick throw in from the left side, tossing it all the way to the six yard box, where teammate Michael Valencia dropped a back pass to Ben Vangucci, who shot it past Erskine goalkeeper

Erskine pressed forward but could not notch the game-tying goal.
The Crusaders outshot the Fleet 14-6 and held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks as well.
De La Vina gave up the lone goal on 14 shots with 7 saves. Crusaders’ goalkeeper Louis Liberatore faced 6 shots with 2 saves.
Erskine had their three-game win streak snapped with the loss.
