Wilson, NC – Despite outshooting Barton 18-14, the Erskine Men’s Soccer Team lost to Barton 2-1 in overtime in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer action. The loss drops the Flying Fleet to 6-6-1 overall and 4-4 in conference while Barton climbs to 9-4 overall and 5-4 in conference.
Barton got on the board early (7
th minute) on Danilo Matos’ sixth goal of the season. Matos received a cross from teammate Dante De Luca on the left side and promptly stuck it into the goal to give Barton a 1-0 lead.
The Fleet tied the game in the 67
th minute at 1-1. Junior
Jack Kimber (Manchester, England, Priestnall High School) sent the ball through the Barton defense that a racing
Andrew Settlemire (Beaufort, SC, Beaufort High School) received in the box and slipped past the Barton goalkeeper Brian Riesenberg. It was Settlemire’s 8
th goal of the season.
For the half, the Fleet had 10 shots to just 4 shots for Barton.
In overtime, Erik Pajunk scored the game-winner on a blast outside the box just inside the right post. For Pajunk, it was his 13
th goal of the season.
