MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University used a pair of first half goals to defeat Erskine 2-1 in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field. An own goal proved to be the difference as the Fleet drop to 2-2 and 0-1 in conference.
Pfeiffer struck quickly in the 12th minute as Fahret Salihovic (Charlotte, NC) sent a corner kick cross to the head of Alex Landim (Brockton, MA) who found the back of the net for a 1-0 Falcon lead. Three and a half minutes later, Asher Quave-Robinson (Columbia, SC) attempted to send a cross over to Landim in the box that deflected off a sliding Erskine defender and into the cage for a 2-0 lead.
The Fleet got on the board when Matt Sluga (Greer, SC) took a rebound off the crossbar from teammate Ben Godfrey to put the Flying Fleet on the board just 1:09 into the second half. Unfortunately, the Fleet could not score again despite Pfeiffer being a man down most of the half due to a red card. Erskine was issued a red card late in the game for physical play.
It was a very physical contest throughout the game as ten yellow cards and two red cards were issued to the two teams.
The Fleet return home to host Barton College this Monday. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
