Mt. Olive, NC – The Erskine women’s soccer team ended their regular season with a 4 to 0 loss to Mount Olive College Saturday at Amon Field. The Fleet finish the season 5-12 overall and 3-7 in conference. The Fleet finished 7th in the conference standings, earning a spot in the conference postseason tournament that starts Monday.
Mount Olive’s first goal came in the 13th minute when Lindsay Stanley passed the ball ahead to Sarah Porter who outran the Erskine defenders to score her 19th goal of the season and extend her personal scoring streak to 7 games.
Two minutes later Mount Olive scored again this time by Cara Paxson who caught a rebound off the crossbar to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.
A pair of saves by Erskine field players prevented Mount Olive from breaking the game wide open midway through the first half. Erskine goalkeeper Si'Ara Washington (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Academic Magnet High School) was drawn off her line by the Trojan attack but teammate Katie Busbee (West Columbia, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School) deflected a shot with her forehead and a kick-save by another defender kept the Fleet within two goals.
The Trojans added another goal just before halftime for a 3-0 lead and got their last goal in the waning minutes of the game to win 4-0.
The Fleet travel to Queens University on Monday for the first round of the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
