Young Harris, GA – The Flying Fleet missed several scoring opportunities and fell to Young Harris College 3 to 1 in non-conference men’s soccer action at YHC Soccer Field. With the loss, the Fleet drop to 6-5 overall but remain in the upper division in the conference standings at 3-1. Young Harris College now stands at 2-4-4 on the year.
Young Harris scored the game’s first goal in the 15th minute as Trevor Monroe collected a loose ball in front of the Erskine goal and slipped it just past Erskine’s diving goalkeeper Roberto De La Vina (Oviedo, Spain, Sam Igmacio). Erskine failed to convert on their six shots in the first half.
Monroe scored his second goal of the game early in the 2nd half when his shot deflected off the cross bar into the goal giving Young Harris a 2-0 advantage.
The Fleet cut into the Young Harris lead when sophomore Matt Sluga (Greer, SC, Riverside High School)played a nice ball to senior Brady Johnson (Charleston, SC, West Ashley High School) who blasted it past the Young Harris goalkeeper in the 68th minute.
Erskine coach Warren Turner pushed his backline forward in an effort to tie the game. However, it was Young Harris who scored the game’s final goal in the 82nd minute to seal the victory.
Erskine had an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks.
The Fleet travel to Central, South Carolina, on Wednesday to play Southern Wesleyan University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
