Greenwood, SC – The Erskine men’s soccer team fell to the Lander University Bearcats Wednesday evening 3-0. With the loss, the Fleet slip to 5-10-2 while Lander improves to 9-5-1.
After torrential rain on Tuesday, the field was not optimal for play by Wednesday evening. Despite the muddy conditions, the Fleet played very strong defense and held the Bearcats scoreless until the 42:39 mark when Lander’s Samy Beydoun nailed a direct kick into the left side of the net. Lander took the 1-0 advantage into the break. The Bearcats out-shot the Fleet 10-1 during the first half of play.
Lander struck again at the 57:49 mark when Adam Arthur scored off a penalty kick after being tackled in the box. Following the Bearcats second goal, the Fleet had a couple of great scoring opportunities but could not convert.

Lander’s final goal came in the last minute of play when Aaron Brittain scored off a cross from Ian Stoykov giving the Bearcats the 3-0 victory.
Erskine was out-shot 23-5 on the game and also fell behind in corner kicks 11-2.
Erskine goalkeeper Devon Braykovich had a busy night as he posted 11 saves on the evening.
The Fleet will be back in action this coming Saturday as they head to Belmont Abbey College for a 3:00 match.
