Coleman's two goals power Erskine past NGU 2-1

Box Score Due west, SC- Erskine's Katherine Coleman (Martinez, GA, Lakeside High School) smashed home two goals to lead Erskine to a 2 to 1 win over in-state conference rival the Crusaders of North Greenville University tonight at Huggins Field.

Coleman struck quickly, one-timing a pass from teammate Kate Harrington (Chapin, SC, Chapin High School) into the back of the net just three minutes into the game. Her second goal came right before half-time (43rd minute) when junior Jennifer Deppen (Martinez, GA, Evans High School) chipped the ball in from 23 yards out and Coleman flicked it past the NGU goalkeeper.

In the second half, Erskine played great defense. Erskine's goalkeeper Ashton Burgess (Greenwood, SC, Emerald High School) had four of her five saves in this half, including three in the final ten minutes.

The only defensive breakdown in game came in the 72nd minute. North Greenville's Lindsay Tuten picked up a loose ball, made a great move to get passed the Erskine defender, and shot the ball into the bottom left corner.

Erskine notches their first conference victory to improve to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference while the Crusaders remains winless at 0-6-1 and 0-2-1.

When asked after the game about her pass to Coleman, Harrington commented smilingly, "it felt great to contribute to the team's first conference win."

Erskine travels to Converse College on Wednesday. Game time is set at 6 p.m.
