Mount Olive survives Erskine's second half comeback

Box Score Mount Olive, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive Trojans survived the Erskine Flying Fleet's second half comeback to win 3 to 2 this afternoon in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action at Amon Field.

Trailing 2 to 0 at halftime, Erskine tallied to second half goals to tie the game at 2 to 2.  Freshman Kate Harrington (Chapin, SC, Chapin High School) scored the Fleet's first goal off a nice cross from teammate Jennifer Deppen (Martinez, GA, Evans High School).  Harrington received Deppen's cross 18 yards out and fired a nice shot into the back of the game.

With just a little over ten minutes remaining, Harrington stole the ball and passed it forward to teammate Mel Foster (Charleston, SC, Fort Dorchester High School) who ripped it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Unfortunately, the Trojans scored less than a minute later.  After sending the kick-off deep into the Fleet territory, the Trojans' Ellie Barnes capitalized on a Fleet miscue to beat the Erskine goalkeeper Ashton Burgess (Greenwood, SC, Emerald High School) one on one for the game-winning goal.

With the win, UMO improved to 2-1 in conference play and 3-4 overall while Erskine fell to 1-5-1 overall and 0-2 in conference.

Erskine returns home to host in-state conference foe North Greenville University on Monday.  This game was postponed due to severe weather back on September 13th.  Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
