Two second half goals sink Flying Fleet

Box Score Anderson, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet surrendered to two second half goals to lose 2 to 0 this afternoon to the Trojans of Anderson University in non-conference women's soccer action at Trojan Stadium.

Despite the overwhelming offensive pressure from Anderson, the Erskine defense, led by goalkeeper Ashton Burgess (Greenwood, SC, Emerald High School), kept the Trojans off the board until the middle stages of the second half.  Anderson fired off 23 shots, including a penalty kick, before a lucky bounce led to their first goal.  A cross into the box deflected straight to Alaina Gay, who promptly deposited the ball into the goal.

A minute later Gay added her second goal of the game.  Teammate Lyssa Engle penetrated into the box drawing in the Erskine defense.  Engle played the ball back out to Gay who rifled the shot into the upper left corner out of the reach of the diving Burgess.

Prior to those two shots, the Erskine back line had allowed Anderson only to place six shots on the goal.  Burgess finished with 11 saves on 33 shots, marking the eighth time this season she has recorded ten or more saves in a game.

Erskine wraps up the season this Saturday against the Saints of Limestone College.  Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
