Foster's PK sends Erskine to 1-0 victory

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Freshman Mel Foster (Charleston, SC, Fort Dorchester High School) blasted a penalty kick cleanly into the goal to send the Erskine Flying Fleet (3-8-1, 2-5) to a 1 to 0 overtime victory against the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University (1-9, 0-7) in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action at Childs Field.

In the sixth minute of overtime, junior Jamie Morris was tripped in the penalty box setting up Foster's game-winning penalty kick.  For Foster, it was her second goal of the season.

In regulation play, Erskine failed to capitalize on a season-high 29 shots, including 20 shots in the first half.  Erskine had trouble placing their shots on goal and when they did, SWU goalkeeper Krista Anonie proved tough to beat, recording 12 saves in the game.

Defensively the Flying Fleet did a superb job limiting the Warriors offensive chances.  The Warriors had just 13 shots in the game and placed only five on goal.  Erskine goalkeeper Ashton Burgess had no problem stopping those shots, logging her second straight shutout, her third overall.  Burgess has now played 208 minutes without surrendering a goal.

Erskine hosts the Bulldogs of Barton College on Saturday for Homecoming.  Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
