Box Score Due West, S.C. – The non-conference women's soccer game between the Erskine Flying Fleet (2-8-1) and the Mars Hill University Lions (0-12-1) ended in a scoreless 0 to 0 tie tonight at Huggins Field.

Junior goalkeeper Ashton Burgess (Greenwood, SC, Emerald High School) kept Erskine in play as she made a couple of incredible saves. Her biggest and most important save came in the 35^th minute when she was able to save a 1-on-1 chance against the lone Mars Hill forward Rachel Weber.

In the second half of the game, Burgess kept the game scoreless as she was able to save the ball against the crossbar twice. Burgess recorded a game-high 11 saves tonight. Today's shutout is her second shutout of this season.

Although the Fleet were outshot 20 to 10 in the game, the Fleet got more opportunities in overtime, generating four shots to the Lions' one. 

In overtime, freshman defender Mel Foster (Charleston, SC, Fort Dorchester High School), who moved to the forward position in overtime, had the biggest chance to finish the game and secure the win for the Fleet.  Her header attempt off a cross by teammate Kate Harrington (Chapin, SC, Chapin High School) just missed the goal by just inches.

Erskine's Heather Bloemsma (Sebring, FL, Home-schooled) had another goal scoring opportunity in the waning minutes of the second overtime period.  Bloemsma ran past her defender and fired a shot that beat the Mars Hill goalkeeper but missed the goal to the left. 

Erskine will continue their conference play against the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Oct. 15. 2014.
