Erskine stages amazing comeback, wins 3-2 over NJIT

Box Score Due West, S.C. – After losing the first two sets, Erskine rallied to win the next three and beat the Highlanders of the New Jersey Institute of Technology 3-2 (21-25, 15-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-10) in non-conference men’s volleyball action at Belk Arena.  The win snapped a three game losing skid for the Flying Fleet (11-12).

After allowing NJIT to hit at .418 clip the first two sets, Erskine tightened their defense at the net, recording 14 blocks over the last three sets in route to a season-high 17 blocks on the night.

Freshman Mike Kawa had a career-night with 26 kills (.314 hitting percentage) and 8 blocks.  Fellow freshman Mike Michelau finished with 11 kills and 8 blocks while setter Corey Marks earned his third double-double of the season with a season-high 52 assists and a game-high 14 digs.

For the Highlanders, Chris Kaepernick had 14 kills and 9 digs while teammate Kajetan Borecki recorded 13 kills and 6 digs.

Prior to the game, Erskine held a moment of silence in honor of former lacrosse coach Kristina Quigley, who along with her unborn child, died in bus accident transporting her Seton Hill team to an away game.

Erskine returns to conference play this Friday when the Flying Fleet host the Cobras of Coker College.  Game time is 7:00 p.m.
