Women's Soccer

Fleet lose to Valkyries 2-0

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine lost to in-state conference foe Converse College 2 to 0 this afternoon in women's soccer action at Huggins Field.

Converse scored both goals in the first half.  The first goal came quickly, less than eight minutes into the game.  Georgia Jones finished a nice cross from teammate Olivia Grose to give the Valkyries an early 1-0 early.

Erskine fought off an onslaught of shots but Converse tallied their second goal with just ten seconds remaining in the first period.  Emily Taylor finished off a deflected shot by Erskine goalkeeper Ashton Burgess (Greenwood, SC, Emerald High School) that put Converse up 2-0 at intermission.

Erskine played well defensively in the second half, holding the Valkyries scoreless but could not mount much of a counter attack.  Erskine finished with just 7 shots with only 3 on goal.

Burgess finished with 9 saves after facing 25 shots.

Erskine travels up the mountain to Banner Elk, North Carolina to face the Bobcats of Lees-McRae on Wednesday.  Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
