Women's Soccer falls to archrival Anderson 4-0

Anderson, SC- Anderson University scored two goals within the first five minutes and defeated the  Erskine Flying Fleet 4-0 in non-conference women’s soccer action at Trojan Field.  With the loss, Erskine slips to 1-2-1 on the season while the Trojans of Anderson University climb to 2-1-1. 

More importantly, Anderson University picks up the first point in the Beville Cup competition.  Erskine and Anderson had split an earlier point in men’s soccer team with a 1-1 tie.

Anderson’s Carrie Settle scored the game’s first goal in the 4th minute and quickly followed by a breakaway goal by Krystal Goss just fourteen seconds later on an Erskine miscue to put the Trojans up 2-0.

Neither team scored for the reminder of the opening half with Anderson outshooting the Fleet 7-2.

In the second half, Anderson tallied two more goals.  Goss  scored her second goal of the game off a pass from teammate Jessica Kleinberg in the 75th minute while Chelsea Hamrick added another goal in the 79th minute.

The Trojans outshot the Fleet 9-2 in the second half.

Erskine goalkeeper Katie Lyle picked up 2 saves on 16 shots as many of the Trojans’ shots were off the mark.  Anderson’s Kaitlyn Neipp recorded three saves on four shots.

Erskine returns to action next Saturday when they host Southern Wesleyan University at 7:00 p.m.
