Two second half Pfeiffer goals sink Fleet

Box Score Misenheimer, NC – Playing in intermitting rain fall, Pfeiffer scored two second half goals to sink Erskine 2-0 in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action at Lefko Field.  The loss drops the Fleet to 3-5-1 overall and 3-2 in conference while the Falcons climb to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in conference.

In the opening half, both teams struggled offensively to push the ball into scoring position.  Pfeiffer had 5 shots, only 2 on goal, while the Fleet were limited to just two shots, both on target but saved the Pfeiffer goalkeeper.

In the second half, Pfeiffer caught a break as Erskine was called for a foul in the penalty box.  Pfeiffer’s Brittany Papaj converted the penalty kick for her first goal of the season.  In the 78th minute, Kayla Rodriquez found Kim Olvera at the seventeen who was able to chip the ball over Erskine goalkeeper Katie Lyle (Duluth, GA, Peachtree Ridge High School)for the insurance goal.

The Flying Fleet managed only two shots in the second half with only one shot being on goal.  Pfeiffer had seven shots scoring two with Lyle picking up 4 more saves.  Lyle finished with 6 saves.

Erskine is back in action at home on Tuesday against in-state rival Newberry College.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
