Erskine loses to Converse 2-0

Box Score Spartanburg, S.C. – The Flying Fleet shooting woes continued as the Converse’s two second half goals downed the Fleet 2-0.  Erskine had three times the number of shots than Converse (18-6) but failed to find the back of the net.

It is the second consecutive game that the Fleet failed to score despite possessing a huge advantage in shots.

Erskine dominated every aspect of the game from shots on goal to off-sides fouls.  Erskine had five corner kicks to Converse’s one.  Converse was called off-sides five times.

After a scoreless first half, the Valkyries scored their first goal on a cross from Darby Boyd to Olivia Grose.  Converse’s Georgia Jones whiffed on her sliding attempt at the cross, pulling the Erskine goalkeeper Ashton Burgess out of position.  Grose received the ball on the backside and placed the ball squarely in the open net.

The second goal came in the waning minutes (88th minute) of the game.  Converse’s Salina Ryan made a perfect pass to Boyd in the middle of the box for the insurance goal.

Erskine has two games remaining.  On Monday, Erskine hosts Newberry College at 4 p.m.  This is a rescheduled game from earlier in the season.  Next Saturday the Fleet host Queens University starting at 1:30 p.m.
