Greenwood, SC – The Erskine Women’s Soccer Team lost to local rival Lander University 5-0 in non-conference women’s soccer action at the Jeff May Complex. The Flying Fleet slip to 1-1 on the year while the Bearcats remain undefeated at 3-0.
Erskine was on the defensive throughout the game as the Fleet were outshot 21-1. Defensively the Fleet played well in the first half holding the Bearcats to just one goal in the first five minutes of the game. Jamie Shaw accepted a pass from Christina Barbour on the left side to put the Bearcats up 1-0.
In the second half, Lander finally broke through the Erskine defense to score four goals. Nina Morales scored in the first two minutes of the second half and Jenny Pederson made it 3-0 eight minutes on a blast from in front the net. Sarah Piechocki scored on a penalty kick in the 66th minute and Lauren MacDonald rounded out the scoring with an unassisted shot from 20 yards out.
Erskine goalkeeper Katie Lyle (Duluth, GA, Peachtree Ridge High School)had six saves.
Erskine returns to the pitch on Saturday against archrival Anderson University. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
