Fleet Lose Double Header to #21 Georgia College

Milledgeville, GA – The 21st ranked Bobcats scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to break an 8-8 tie and take game one of a double header over Erskine College Saturday afternoon.  Georgia College also took game two 7-0 to clinch the series victory over the Fleet.

 

Game One

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Erskine would get RBI singles from Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) and Shawn Glover (Columbia, SC, Richland Northeast High School) to take a one run lead.  The Bobcats would then score a single run in each of the next three innings to make it a 4-2 game.  In the top of the fifth, Drew Willingham (Hodges, SC, Greenwood HS) would hit a one out solo home run to cut the deficit to one.  Casey Winckowski (Oregon, OH, Owens CC) would follow with a single and then later score on Corn’s second RBI single of the day to tie the game at four.

Georgia College would score two runs in the sixth and eighth innings to take an 8-4 lead going into the final inning.  With one out, the Fleet would get back to back singles from Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) and John Bolding (Pickens, SC, Pickens HS). Willingham would then walk to load the bases and bring the tying run to the plate.  Winckowski would step to the plate and hit a bases clearing triple off the centerfield wall to make it a one run lead.  He would then score on a single through the right side of the infield by Cameron Yost (Simpsonville, SC, Hillcrest HS) to tie the game at eight.  The Bobcats would take advantage of an Erskine error in the bottom of the ninth to score the winning run.

Corn led the Fleet at the plate going 4-5 with two RBI’s and Winckowski was 2-3 with a triple and three runs driven in.  Kit Carter took the loss allowing one unearned run on one hit in one-third of an inning of work.

Game Two

The second game of the day started out as neither team could push across a run through the first three and a half innings.  Georgia College broke the scoreless tie with a single run in the fourth and then add three runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take the 7-0 victory.

Smith and Winckowski both had two hits to lead the Erskine offense, while Willingham and Phillip Herring (Dillion, SC, Dillion HS) each had one hit.  Robbie Brown (Dillon, SC, DillonHS) took the loss allowing four runs on six hits and struck out three in 5.1 innings of work.

The two teams will conclude their four game series Monday afternoon in Due West with a single game starting at 3:00 pm.
