HOW IT HAPPENED
Looking for redemption for a loss at Augusta when these teams first met this season, Erskine wasted no time jumping out to a huge early lead. Aided by the help of free passes, the Fleet got a pair of two-run hits from
Danny Villafane and
Gio Lopez in the first, and then
Ricky Dober's solo home run started another rally in the second, as Erskine scored six runs in each of their first two innings and immediately opened up a 12-0 lead. After Augusta got on the board in the fourth,
Cole Savage responded with an RBI double, making it 14-2 after four innings. Then, in the seventh, the Fleet put the finishing touches on their highest scoring total of the season with a monster 15-run inning.
Jack Luthren's two-run home run and
Jacob Platt's three-run blast started the scoring in the frame before the Fleet turned to their bench, which provided more power.
Stephen Kriner and
Brock Donnelly each left the yard in their first at-bats of the day, and then
Luke Garabedian added a two-run single.
Adrian Rolon's infield hit scored another run before a two-RBI double off the bat of
Jalyn Tidwell made it 26-4. Donnelly put a bow on a huge inning with a rare feat of his own, launching an opposite-field, three-run home run for his second home run of the inning as the Fleet started fast and finished strong in a dominant home win.
THE PLAYER
Brock Donnelly spent the first six innings of the game on the bench, but delivered when his name was called, helping lead the Fleet to a 15-run seventh inning. Donnelly launched a home run to straightaway center field early on in the frame and then capped it with a three-run home run in his second at-bat of the seventh inning, becoming Erskine's first player in at least seven years to accomplish the feat.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine starts a long road trip with a visit to Chowan University (3-19, 3-15 CC) for a three-game conference series that starts Friday at 2 p.m.
