Due West, SC – 17th ranked Erskine College (7-0) had 13 extra base hits, including five home runs in a 21-7 victory over Paine College Friday afternoon in the opening game of the three game non conference series.
John Bolding (Pickens, SC, Pickens HS) put the Fleet up in the bottom of the first with a two out solo home run to left field. Erskine would explode for five runs in the second inning and would go on to score in each of their next six at bats as they cruised to the victory.
Freshman Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) became the first Erskine player in recent memory to hit for the cycle, going 5-6 with two home runs, a double, triple and three RBI’s. Bolding also had a career day going 4-5 with two home runs and six runs driven in, while sophomore Phillip Herring (Dillion, SC, Dillion HS) blasted his first career home run in the victory. Casey Winckowski (Oregon, OH, Owens CC) and Drew Willingham (Hodges, SC, Greenwood HS) has three hits each, while Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS), Luke Danielewicz (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School), Zach McCarthy (Spartanburg, SC, Byrnes HS), and Will Huff (Suga Hill, GA, North Gwinnett HS) all added two hits. Taylor Wall (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Prep HS) picked up his first win of the year allowing five hits and striking out five in five innings of shutout work.
The two teams will conclude their series with a double header starting tomorrow at noon.
