HOW IT HAPPENED
Alex Heintz made his first weekend start in nearly two years as he continues his return from a long-term injury and delivered two and two-thirds scoreless innings to begin the afternoon. A two-out home run from Shorter in the third gave them the game's first lead, and the Fleet were held off the board through their first four innings. However, Cole Savage got the scoring started for Erskine in the fifth with a leadoff home run to tie the game, and then two batters later, Noah Hill launched a big fly to suddenly fire the Fleet in front, 2-1. Jared Guell took over on the mound in the third and kept the Hawks at bay into the late innings. After Kendall Brewer came on to pitch the seventh and worked around a leadoff single, the Fleet found some insurance in the eighth. Mason McManus, Pierce Radke, and Ricky Dober were all walked before Danny Villafane delivered the big hit in the frame, a two-run double that extended Erskine's lead to 4-1. Drew Potts' RBI single in the ninth gave the Fleet some more cushion and Brewer did the rest on the mound through the final two innings as the Fleet won the opener over Shorter to start the weekend.

THE PLAYER
Jared Guell earned his third win of the season in relief on Friday and was excellent through three-plus shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four batters to help lead the Fleet pitching staff to a solid performance in game one of the weekend.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine and Shorter finish their series with a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon.
