Gauthier's goal gives Fleet 1-0 victory in OT

Wilson, NC – Junior Stephanie Gauthier (Irmo, SC, Dutch Fork High School) scored her first goal of the season in overtime to give Erskine a 1-0 victory over the Bulldogs of Barton College in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action.  Erskine evens their record at 6-6 overall and is 5-4 in conference.  Barton falls to 3-9 overall and 2-7 in conference.

Gauthier scored the game-winner midway through the overtime period on a pass from junior Molly Harpe (Anderson, SC, T.L. Hanna High School).  It was Harpe’s team-leading fourth assist on the season.

The Flying Fleet outshot the Bulldogs 18-9 on the night.

In the first half, Barton’s goalkeeper Carson Moore made two nice saves to preserve the scoreless tie.  In the 24th minute, Harpe blasted a shot that Moore saved and a few minutes later sophomore Victoria Bruce (Gladehill, VA, Franklin County High School) took a shot from within the box that Moore stopped.

Moore finished with 8 saves while allowing the one goal.  Erskine’s goalkeeper Katie Lyle (Duluth, GA, Peachtree Ridge High School) earned the shutout victory, tallying 5 saves in the victory.

Erskine travels to Banner Elk, North Carolina, on Wednesday to play conference-leading Lees-McRae College.  Game time is set for 5 p.m.
