Fleet Lose 2-1 OT

Due West, SC – The Flying Fleet failed to hold an early lead losing in overtime to Barton College 2 to 1 in Conference Carolinas women’s soccer action at Huggins Field.

 

Freshman Casey Craft (Anderson, SC, T.L. Hanna High School)slipped the ball past the Barton goalkeeper on a nice center pass from fellow freshman Kasi Benskin (Denver, NC, East Lincoln High School) to put the Fleet up midway through the first half.

 

Barton tied the game in the 68th minute when Anna Tressler headed a rebound off the crossbar passed the diving Erskine goalkeeper tying the game at one a piece.

 

In overtime Barton’s Hilary Peterson got past the Erskine defense striking a shot into the right corner to win the game.

 

On the night Erskine out shot Barton 14 to 9.  Barton goalkeeper Mileika Miki had 8 saves while Erskine goalkeeper Si'Ara Washington (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Academic Magnet High School) finished with 3 saves.

 

The Fleet travel to Clinton, South Carolina, on Wednesday to play Division I opponent Presbyterian College.  Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
