#20 Fleet Out Slug #8 Georgia College and State 14-10

Milledgeville, GA – The Flying Fleet pounded out 14 hits, including five for extra bases to take a 14-10 victory over the eighth ranked Georgia College and State Bobcats at John Kurtz Field Wednesday night in non conference baseball action.

Erskine would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Chas Anthony (Pickens, SC, Pickens High School) 15th home run of the season. In top of the second, Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS) would lead off with a single, but the Bobcats would turn a double play to clear the bases seemed to end the Fleet rally.  Casey Winckowski (Oregon, OH, Owens CC) and Zach McCarthy (Spartanburg, SC, Byrnes HS) would then single back to back to put runner’s at first and third base. Matt Youngblood (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge CC) would then hit an infield single to drive in a run. Greg Huff (McDonough, GA, Henry County High School) would step to the plate and launch a three run home run to left center field to make it a 5-0 game. Erskine would add three more runs in the fourth inning to push their lead to 8-0.

It would look like the Fleet would cruise to the victory, but a two run home run from Georgia College would make it a 8-2 game. The Fleet responded with three runs in the sixth on an RBI single from Anthony and a two run home run by Bolding to take a 11-2 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Bobcats would hit two more home runs to cut the Erskine lead to 11-6. Erskine would bring Russell Reid (Hudson, NC, South Caldwell HS) in and he would shut down the rally and keep the Fleet lead at five. The Bobcats would add three more runs in the seventh to make it a two run game. The Fleet would answer the Bobcats in the top of the eighth with a two run single by Bolding and a RBI single from Luke Danielewicz (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School) to go up 14-9. Although the Bobcats would add a run in the bottom half it would not be enough as Reid would finish the game for his first save of the season.

Anthony led the Fleet going 4-4 with a double, home run and two RBI’s, while Bolding was 2-5 with a home run and four RBI’s. Huff drove in three and Bryan Fogle drove in two in the victory. William Buzhardt (Columbia, SC, Ben Lippen High School) picked up his NCAA leading 13th victory allowing six runs in five innings of work.
