MARS HILL, N.C. – The Flying Fleet were shutout by Mars Hill College losing 3-0 at Meares Stadium in non-conference women’s soccer action. Mars Hill improves to 6-2-2 overall while the Flying Fleet drop to 2-8.
Mars Hill scored two first half goals. The Lion’s Salem Woody scored from 20 yards out on a pass from Misha Price (Cary, NC) to give Mars Hill a 1-0. Mars Hill got their 2nd goal when Caity Murnahan (Bloomfield Hills, MI) placed the ball perfectly over Erskine’s goalkeeper Si'Ara Washington's (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Academic Magnet High School) head and into the top right corner of the net.
The Fleet got numerous chances in the second half to cut into Mars Hill’s lead but failed place the ball in the net. Kasi Benskin (Denver, NC, East Lincoln High School) led the Fleet with 3 shots while Emily Brown (Clemson, SC, Daniel High School) and Katie Busbee (West Columbia, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School) both had two shots each.
Mars Hill scored their final goal of the game in the 81st minute. Alyssa Morris (Forked River, NJ) put the ball across the white line off a corner kick from Murnahan.
The Flying Fleet return to action on Thursday, October 7th, against North Greenville College at 4:00 p.m.
