GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas announced the 2024 men's volleyball all-conference honors prior to the start of the Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Championship semifinals on Friday, April 19. The all-conference awards were chosen by the league's head coaches.
Erskine had five representatives on the three all-conference teams, with
Edgerrin Austin earning a spot on the First Team,
Pablo Zamar being named to the Second Team, and
Wiktor Ankurowski,
Kacper Rybarczyk, and
Mikey Widmyer making the Third Team.
Edgerrin Austin, a redshirt senior outside hitter from Joliet, Illinois, led the conference in kills per set (3.71), while also being sixth in the league in hitting percentage (.283). Austin was also top-five in the conference in aces per set and led the Fleet in total aces (25). He was named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week in late January and had a season-high 25 kills against North Greenville earlier this year. Austin has made an all-conference team for the third consecutive season, earning Third Team and Second Team honors in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Pablo Zamar, a sophomore outside hitter from Jujuy Argentina, finished just behind Austin in kills per set (3.57), which ranked third in the conference. He also posted a .255 hitting percentage, top 10 in the league. Zamar was third on the Fleet in blocks (31) and fourth in aces (12) in 2024. He was also a Conference Carolinas Player of the Week nominee, earning the award in early March after posting a career-high 22 kills against the regular season champions, Belmont Abbey. Zamar really came on down the stretch of the regular season, recording his three highest kill totals of the year in the final 11 matches of the campaign.
Wiktor Ankurowski, a sophomore middle blocker from Warsaw, Poland, led the Fleet in blocks (53) and hitting percentage (.377) in 2024. After missing most of the season a year ago as a freshman, Ankurowski returned and started in all but one match this season. He totaled seven different matches with at least four blocks, including a season-high 6 blocks in the Fleet's conference tournament quarterfinal against King.
Kacper Rybarczyk, a senior outside hitter from Warsaw, Poland, missed the final nine matches of the season due to injury, but led the conference in aces per set, totaling 23 aces in just 48 sets this year. Rybarczyk was also third on the Fleet in kills per set (2.83) and led the team in digs per set (1.88). The Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year from a season ago had five matches with double-digit kills, including a season-best 23 kills in Erskine's win at Barton.
Mikey Widmyer, a sophomore libero from Campobello, S.C., appeared in 20 of the Fleet's 2024 games and led the team in digs (115), averaging out to 1.65 digs per set, which was top-10 in the conference. Widmyer saved his best performances of the season for the final stretch, totaling 10 digs in the Fleet's regular season home finale against Mount Olive, and then recording a career-best 16 digs in the conference tournament quarterfinal match against King.
Belmont Abbey trio, Matthew Staskunas (Offensive Player of the Year), Joseph Morris (Freshman of the Year), and Derek Sullivan (Coach of the Year), took home most of the individual awards, while Emmanuel's Nicklas Eichenberger was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Erskine's 2024 season came to an end on Tuesday evening in the quarterfinal round of the Conference Carolinas Championships, which continues this weekend in North Charleston, S.C.
