DUE WEST, S.C. – Nine Erskine College baseball players are set to play in wood bat summer leagues across the southeast this year. The Fleet will have players in the Coastal Plain League, Florida Gulf Coast League, Coastal Plain League, Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League, Myrtle Beach Collegiate League, and the South Florida Collegiate League.
The most well represented team will be Inspiration Academy of the
Florida Gulf Coast League, as outfielder
Gregory Sanders joins pitchers
Parker Cassell and
Chase Hadwin.
"Inspiration Academy has been an incredible asset for our program over the past few years. It is a Christ Centered environment with all the resources that a college baseball player needs to grow physically, spiritually and as a player," Head Coach
Mark Crocco said. "Gregory was a Second Team all Florida Gulf Coast Selection last season for them and I fully expect Parker & Chase to make an immediate impact on the mound for them as well."
The Coastal Plain League will also have three Erskine players in it in 2021 as well including a middle of the lineup duo on the
Savannah Bananas. Bananas returner
Drew Yniesta is joined by third baseman
Livan Reinoso on Savannah's roster this summer.
"Drew and Livan have been incredible players for us over the past few years and Savannah is a destination spot for players all over the country," Coach Crocco said. "The Head Coach of the Bannanas Tyler Gillum has been a great supporter of our program. We are excited to give these young men a chance to showcase their talents on the national stage."Â
Livan's brother
Dayan Reinoso will also be a part of the Coastal Plain League as he joins the
Spartanburg Spartanburgers for the upcoming summer.
"Dayan has an amazing opportunity to be apart of a first year CPL team here in the South Carolina upstate area. There will be a lot of fresh excitement around this team all summer. He will have the opportunity to Catch and play 1B for another outstanding Erskine Baseball supporter in Head Coach Wesley Brown," Coach Crocco said. "Stay tuned for a Savannah vs. Spartanburg Match Up that will have Dayan and Livan playing against each other for the first time."
Pitcher
Weston Kerley will return to the Catawba Valley Stars of the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League for the second consecutive summer.
"Weston will be returning to the Catawba Valley Stars this summer. He saw tremendous growth this past year and saw more meaningful innings due to the experience he gained the previous summer," Coach Crocco said. "We look forward to watching him grow as he will be in a starter role for the Stars this summer."
Representing the
Myrtle Beach Collegiate League is pitcher
Parker Jefferson. Coach Crocco said he expects Jefferson to log significant innings and continue to get back to full strength from a knee injury during his last season at junior college.
Rounding out the group is second baseman
Cal Bocchino who joins Palm Beach Extreme in the
South Florida Collegiate League.
"Cal is coming off a great junior season and will be returning to the South Florida Collegiate League. He was a first team All League Selection for the Palm Beach Extreme last summer," Coach Crocco said. "Cal is the ultimate competitor and will continue to perform at a high level and represent our program in a very good league."
