Due West, S.C. - Barton remain the only team, in conference, to gain wins over the Fleet.  This time they did it in three straight sets (25-17, 26-24, 26-24). 

The Bulldogs pulled away with the lead in both the 1st and 2nd sets.  The Fleet had 8 hitting errors with only 10 kills in the 1st set while Barton had 13 kills and only 4 errors.  It was not just the errors that kept the Fleet from taking the first set, it was the relentless defense by the Bulldogs that helped them with the convincing score of the first set 17-25.

Although Barton started off 2nd set with the lead, the Fleet maintained the lead throughout most of the remainder of the set until the final points.  It was a kill by Vasilis Mandilaris at 24-24 that caught the Bulldogs up and then a couple of critical errors by the Fleet that lost the 2nd set 24-26. 

The 3rd set was back and forth for most of the way through until after a timeout called by Barton at 22-18.  The Bulldogs once again came through at the end of the set with great defense and a couple a kills to win the 3rd and final set of the match.

The Fleet were led by Roberto Perez Vargas with 18 kills and 6 digs as well as Mike Michelau who contributed 14 kills and 8 digs.  Freshmen, Alex Brandstetter, came in and made a huge contribution in the setters position dishing out 24 assists.  Neal Stanley and Michael Schneck  added 9 and 7 digs respectively. 

The Fleet are traveling to Banner Elk to play Lees-McRae this Tuesday, March 22nd at 7pm.
