Box Score Due West, SC - In the team's 8th straight win, Erskine men's volleyball overcame a strong King team with a 3-0 sweep, winning 25-20, 25-19, 26-24 in Belk Arena this evening.
"The best moments in volleyball is when your team faces an outstanding opponent and coach, when every point must be earned. This is the only way a team can get better," said Erskine head coach Cole Tallman.
The Tornados had the lead throughout most sets, with only couple of lead changes throughout between the two teams. King challenged Erskine with tough serving and strong blocking throughout the night. The Tornados ended the match with 11.5 total blocks to the Fleets 7 blocks.
It was the experience that gave the Fleet the edge when it came to closing out the matches. Senior outside, Mike Michelau, recognized that by saying, "we fought through adversity and didn't get down on each other when we were losing. Instead, we stuck together and relied on our experience and just played our game to finish each set on top."
Michelau led the offense with 21 kills and only 5 errors, hitting .533 for the match. Seniors Neal Stanley and Michael Schneck kept providing opportunities for the Fleet offense by adding 12 and 15 digs respectively. This weeks National Player of the Week and Conference Carolinas player of the week had another solid night contributing 42 assists.
The Fleet (8-0, 9-3) will travel to Barton College to play the Bulldogs at 7pm this Thursday night.
