Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (1-15, 1-7) ended their 2015 campaign with a 22 to 8 loss to the visiting Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College this afternoon in Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse action at Huggins Field.
Due to mechanical issues with The Abbey's bus, the start of the game was delayed an hour and half.
The travel issues did not bother the Crusaders as they scored the game's first five goals, including two in the first minute. The Abbey's Mackenzie Miller scored off a nice pass from Shanin Darley just eighteen seconds into the game. Rebecca Luca added another goal just twenty seconds later. The Crusaders never trailed in the game.
Erskine finished the opening period strong, scoring four goals in the last ten minutes.
Mackenzie Brown (Brentwood, TN, Brentwood High School) scored two goals while
Samantha Burns (Hilton Head Island, SC, Hilton Head Island High School) and
Alexandria Butler (Hilton, NY, Hilton Central High School) added the other two Fleet goals.
The Abbey continued to dominate the second half, outscoring the Fleet 7 to 3. Burns, a senior, added two more goals for the Fleet and concluded her career with an Erskine school record of 216 career goals, which currently ranks 16
th overall in the nation.
The Abbey's Katelin Glass led all-scorers with 4 goals and 3 assists. Rebecca Stromberg also tallied 3 goals and an assist.
