Mount Olive, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (3-12, 2-7) lost to first place University of Mount Olive Trojans (14-3, 9-0) 9 to 0 this afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's tennis action.
Despite a valiant effort by
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) and
Jason Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) at #1 doubles, UMO managed to clinch all three points in the doubles matches. Mathewes and Harris were edged by Matthew Finnery and Henric Falkenberg 8 to 6. It was just the second loss in conference play for Harris and Mathewes.
The Trojans swept the Fleet in all six singles matches in straight sets. Harris gave Finnerty a run but lost 7-5 and 6-3 at the #1 singles position.
Erskine hosts local rival Lander University next Friday beginning at 2:30 p.m.
