Wilson, N.C. – The Erskine Men's Tennis Team (3-11, 2-6) lost to conference foe Barton College Bulldogs (10-4, 6-1) 8 to 1 this morning at the Barton Tennis Complex.
Erskine competed well in the doubles matches with
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) and
Jason Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) triumphing 8 to 6 at their #1 doubles position.
Alan Pearce (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) and
Andre Andre (Setubal, Portugal) battled hard but fell at #2 doubles 8 to 3.
The Fleet could not sustain any momentum going into the singles matches, losing all six matches in straight sets. The Fleet's best two matches came at #1 and #4 singles. Mathewes forced an extra game in the first set, losing 7-5 and dropped the second set 6-4. Andre forced an extra game in each of his sets before losing 7-5 in each.
Erskine will seek to rebound tomorrow against the University of Mount Olive. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
